The Right Preparation Makes the Difference

A flooring installation can only perform as well as the substrate beneath it. Uneven surfaces, residual adhesives, moisture, cracking and poorly prepared backgrounds can all affect the appearance and long-term performance of the completed floor.

Before installation, the existing substrate is assessed and the preparation requirements established around its condition and the flooring system being installed.

Preparation can include removal of existing finishes and adhesives, mechanical preparation, moisture testing, localised repairs, smoothing and levelling compounds, primers and other preparatory treatments required for the selected flooring system.

Where moisture conditions require additional treatment, appropriate moisture-control or damp-proof systems can be considered in accordance with the requirements of the proposed flooring installation.

Particular attention is also given to thresholds, transitions, perimeter details and interfaces with adjacent finishes so that the completed installation works as a complete flooring system rather than simply a new surface covering.

Existing flooring removal, substrate preparation, curing periods and installation are considered together when developing the programme. Where appropriate, areas can be completed and returned to service progressively before work moves into the next phase.
